Writer Wednesday: Come NaNoWriMo With Us!

Greetings and Good morning authors! Here we are again, another NaNoWriMo upon. Between holidays, shortening days, and general exhaustion, November always seems like an odd month yet despite this, thousands of writers challenged themselves every year to go ham and produce 50k words in 30 days. That includes many among the Sword & Silk authors and staff, because we love a good challenge.

A Brief History of NaNoWriMo

The now infamous author challenge began in 1999, powered along by word of mouth and word nerds in the still early days of the internet. National Novel Writing Month is a nonprofit organization that supports writing fluency and education. It's sponsored many work shops and programs over the years and created a forum and support system for writers to come together and support one another. You can donate, buy fancy swag, and support a good cause.

NaNoWriMo has plenty of clout among traditionally published authors, many whom act as key note speakers providing encouragement during the month long challenge, but the appeal of NaNoWriMo is that anyone, from anywhere, can join in. You do not need to be an established author. The challenge welcomes all, from professionals looking for that extra push to hobbyists wanting to stretch themselves. The core of NaNoWriMo is to inspire words, and whether you reach that 50k goal or not, every milestone is celebrated as a success.

One of Us, One of Us

Many of us on the Sword & Silk staff are big proponents of NaNoWriMo and it's not too late to dive in on the action if you are tempted. All month long, we shall be posting prompts and check ins as we scribble away behind the scenes, including the occasional blog post to talk about all that NaNoWriMo goodness.

We hope you join us, but remember, if you can't take on another challenge this month, you are doing your absolute best and we see you. NaNoWriMo is meant to be fun, not stressful, and if you can't participate this November, shelve the FOMO because there are multiple Camp NaNo events you can hop into throughout the year.

Coming Up

November is a big month for Sword & Silk, with lots of goings on behind the scenes. Keep an eye open for some special announcements and surprises coming your way soon!
